Decorative Glass Processes owner, Patrick Mackle, began
working with glass products back in the early 1970's. He started
by doing restaurant glass. Then he added signage
and monuments to his product line.
Due to his growing interest in glass etching, Pat traveled
to England to gather information on techniques in
turn-of-the-century acid embossing and stone
wheel cutting (or brilliant cutting). These techniques
were the pre-cursor to modern-day sandblasting methods.
In the early years of DGP, Pat employed these learned techniques
to restore turn-of-the-century works of art. Some of these commissions
included the Queen Mary, the Iolani
Palace in Hawaii, various state capitol
buildings, movie theatres, as
well as celebrities' private collections.
In 1979, Pat developed a series of processes using photo-sensitive
sandblast emulsions to decorate and etch photographs into
glass. The advent of these developments incorporated with
other glass decorating techniques,
make for a large pallet of choices. The addition of gold
leaf and enamel paints
and other color-enhancing materials lends itself to an outstanding
product. Pat has also been incorporating kiln-work
glass for bending, slumping, and adding textures.
As a result of all of these skills, Pat's company is world-renown
for being able to offer a wide variety of superior quality
etched products. These products include crystal glass awards
and trophies, doors, windows, glass wall dividers, architectural
accents, lighting, monuments and memorials, headstones, etched
tile, ground-breaking shovels, bowls, cups, glassware, wine
bottles and goblets, perfume bottles, and more.
